The online survey is multiple choice and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Please follow the link: http://www.kwiksurveys.com/?s=ILLLML_9669e09d. Would be great if you would encourage others to do the survey also.

Outside the R&D tax credit (which I'm assuming will be extended), there is another bill making rounds for signing before the end of the year giving companies a bonus tax credit for any capital equipment purchased before the end of CY2010. Does anyone know if Cloud services (IaaS, SaaS or PaaS) classify as a purchase that would fall under the capital equipment tax credit?

Unfortunately, I have to agree with most of your points, education being one of the more salient points, as the US slides to the middle of the pack in the latest OECD standings on education results.

One error however - The inventor of the telephone is largely credited to Alexander Graham Bell who was a Canadian. Mr. Bell (also the founder of Bell Canada) was born in Scotland in 1847 and emigrated to Canada in 1870, eventually settling near Brantfor, Ontario. He eventually died on Nova Scotia on the east coast of Canada. He did register the patent for the telephone with the US Patent office however :-)

Americans often credit famous Canadian as Americans (i.e. Neil Young, Avril Lavigne, Shania Twain, Brian Adams, Barenaked Ladies and the inventor of the telephone), but that's OK... we take it as a comliment ;-)

As a Information System Security Officer I have seen first hand these rogue application. I follow your rational for their existence but to allow anyone in the field to develop application without oversight, and that is what rogue means, is a security nightmare. I have seen where PII information was collected in a rogue application, notice was not given to the employees their was being collected, risk analysis and privacy impact analysis were not performed leaving the agency at risk. Allowing anyone to building applications in the cloud just to allow for rapid deployment without adhering to standards causes more problems than it solves.

Cloud computing is being presented as the big panacea that will cure all IT ills; but I caution... Let the buyer beware. It is up to the data owner to protect his data and not the cloud utility provider.
